Clinical Scenario
Chapter 03, Scenario 01

Review the clinical scenario presented and respond to questions.

Jimmy describes himself as "mad at the world." He just got laid off from his job at the aircraft manufacturing firm after 23 years, where he was only 2 years from retirement. He feels that he has given them the best years of his life, working extra hours that led to his divorce, arthritis, and hypertension. And now he does not even have his prescription plan to pay for "all those fancy medicines that the doctor ordered" and that make him feel lethargic. Now he is 2 months behind in alimony payments and his former wife has threatened to "go after" the house. He lives alone in a two-story brick house that has been in his family for three generations; his girlfriend of 13 months left him after he was laid off. He really was looking forward to retirement in Florida and fishing but did not want to leave his family home for more than the winter months, which have been getting increasingly difficult because of his arthritis. Describe Jimmy's situation in terms of a developmental theory.
